Why Golden Years Protection
Golden Years Protection is run by one independent insurance agent. I explain coverage options from the carriers I work with so you can review how they differ. If one carrier's answer does not fit your case, another can be considered.
Critical illness plans differ in which conditions are covered and how the lump sum is paid, and seeing that before a claim beats finding out after.

Critical Illness: Quick Facts
Serious Illness Hits Your Wallet, Not Just Your Health
Critical illness insurance is a limited benefit policy that pays a lump-sum cash benefit if you are diagnosed with a covered condition, such as a heart attack or stroke.
I review the covered conditions with you and compare plans from the carriers I work with.
Understanding Critical Illness Benefits
Covers Heart Attack
A covered heart attack diagnosis can trigger your lump-sum benefit.
Covers Stroke and More
Stroke and other serious conditions listed in the policy are covered too.
Benefits Depend on the Policy
A policy may pay a lump sum for a covered event and may include benefits for later events. Review each benefit’s conditions and limits.
Payee and Benefit Use
Check who receives payment and what terms govern its use. Cash paid to you may be available for household expenses. Claim conditions and limits still apply.
Plan for Household Expenses
List the bills you want to plan for and the resources you choose to use. A benefit does not establish that all expenses or lost income will be covered.
Adds to What You Have
Works alongside your other coverage as an extra layer of protection.

Coverage and eligibility depend on the policy and carrier underwriting.
Critical Illness Expense-Planning Worksheet
Choose a planning period and enter the household and nonmedical expenses you want to consider. Then enter resources you choose to use for those expenses. No contact information is needed to see the balance.
Choose your own period. It is not an estimate of treatment or recovery time. Every dollar entry below must cover this whole period, not one month.
Use your own figures. This worksheet does not estimate treatment costs or insurance benefits. Do not enter a diagnosis, symptoms, treatment details, or family health history.
Check for overlap. Count each expense and resource once. Enter the bills you want to plan for, not lost wages as another expense. Otherwise, you could count both lost pay and the bills it would have paid.
Your Expense-Planning Balance
Choose a planning period, select at least one expense, and complete the selected amounts and both resource fields to see the balance.
Balance = selected expenses minus available funds minus allocated take-home income. A result below zero is shown as zero. The worksheet adds your period totals; it does not multiply them by the number of months.
This balance is an expense-planning figure based only on your entries. It is not a recommended coverage amount, an expected policy payout, or an eligibility decision.
Actual expenses, income, and available funds may differ. A total does not show when a bill is due or when money will arrive. Keep benefit-comparison questions separate from this calculation.
The worksheet runs in your browser. Its entries and results are not saved or sent with a quote request. Reset or reload the page to clear them.
You can use the balance to organize a discussion. If you want help reviewing policy questions, the quote form is optional.

CRITICAL ILLNESS: HONEST ANSWERS
Frequently Asked Questions
What does critical illness insurance pay?
Critical illness insurance is limited benefit coverage. A policy may pay a cash benefit for a covered condition, subject to its definitions, exclusions, and limits. Read the contract to learn what triggers payment, who receives it, and what a claim requires. It is not a substitute for major medical coverage.
Can a policy pay after more than one covered event?
A policy may include benefits for later covered events. Read each benefit separately to check which events qualify, how much can be paid, and whether a waiting period or repeat-event limit applies. Do not assume an earlier payment means a later event will qualify.
How does this differ from key person life insurance?
The key person life insurance arrangement described on this site addresses a covered death and names the business as beneficiary. Critical illness coverage concerns conditions defined in its own contract. A diagnosis alone does not establish a death claim. Ask about any separate policy or rider before treating illness and death benefits as interchangeable.
What does the expense-planning balance mean?
It is the total of your selected expenses for a period you choose, minus funds already available and take-home income you allocate to those expenses. A negative result is shown as zero. It is not a coverage recommendation, an expected insurance payout, or a promise to replace lost income. Review benefit-use terms separately.
Does a zero balance mean every expense is covered?
No. It means only that the resources you entered meet or exceed the expenses you entered. You may have left out expenses or counted resources that will not be available when a bill is due. A zero result does not decide whether insurance is needed or whether a claim would be paid.
Do I need to share health or contact details to use the worksheet?
No. Use your own expense and resource figures without entering a diagnosis, symptoms, treatment details, or family health history. The worksheet runs in your browser and does not send its entries with a quote request. Contacting me is optional. If you later choose to apply, review the carrier’s application requirements separately.
