Why Golden Years Protection

Golden Years Protection is run by one independent insurance agent. I explain term life options from the carriers I work with so you can review how they differ.

Term plans differ in length, in what happens when the term ends, and in whether they can convert, and the right fit depends on the years you want to protect.

What Is Term Life Insurance and Who Should Buy It?

Term life insurance is a level-coverage policy that covers you for 10, 20, or 30 years and pays your family a generally income-tax-free death benefit, commonly $100,000 to $1 million or more, if you die during the term. It can help working adults ages 18 to 70 replace income, pay off a mortgage, and protect children. It may fit families whose biggest risks have an end date, like a mortgage or kids at home. It is not a fit for permanent needs like burial costs or estate planning; whole life or final expense insurance covers those.

At Golden Years Protection, I am an independent life insurance agent in Fort Worth, TX, licensed in 40 states. Golden Years Protection is a one-stop shop for final expense, term life, whole life, mortgage protection, fixed annuities, key person insurance, and indexed universal life, plus dental, vision & hearing, cancer, and critical illness insurance as limited benefit policies, not a substitute for major medical coverage. One agent, coverage options: families, seniors, individuals, and small business owners can review coverage options in one place.

Your income may help cover the mortgage, groceries, debts, and other household expenses. If that income stopped after your death, which expenses would remain, and what resources would your family have to cover them?

Term life insurance helps protect against that. It provides a large death benefit ($100K to $1M+) for level coverage during a set term. The Insurance Information Institute notes that younger and healthier applicants may have more coverage paths available. If you also need to cover end-of-life costs, consider pairing term with final expense insurance.

What needs would remain?

Start with the expenses and responsibilities your household would still have if your income stopped after your death. Consider income replacement, the mortgage balance, other debts, and future family needs. Then review the life insurance already in place.

Some needs overlap. Income replacement may already include money for housing and other bills. Check that adding a mortgage payoff or another expense does not count the same need twice.

Think about how long each need may last. The years entered in this estimator describe income replacement. They do not select a policy term.

Use the coverage estimator to work through these needs.

Educational Estimate

Estimate My Coverage Need

Use your own numbers to explore a possible coverage need. The starting numbers are an example. You can calculate an estimate without entering contact details.

How does the estimate work?

The estimator multiplies annual income by the years of income replacement you enter. It adds the mortgage balance and other family needs, then subtracts existing life insurance coverage. A result below zero is shown as zero.

The calculation then rounds a positive result up to the next $50,000. It uses 90% and 110% of that rounded amount to calculate the displayed range, rounding each end up to the next $50,000.

The range is a planning aid. It does not show which policies or coverage amounts are available to you.

Restore the example numbers and clear this estimate.

What happens when a term ends?

Coverage can end, or the policy may allow you to continue it through renewal or conversion. Renewal extends coverage. Conversion changes term coverage to permanent coverage under the policy's rules.

Check the policy's deadlines before the term ends. A conversion deadline may come earlier. I can help you review what the policy allows and whether the need for protection remains.

TERM LIFE QUESTIONS: HONEST ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when my term life policy ends?

Your options depend on the policy. It may allow renewal or conversion to permanent coverage, subject to its deadlines and terms. You can also let coverage end if the need is gone. Review those options before the term or conversion period ends. I can help you check what your policy allows.

How much term life insurance do I need?

Start with the income and other needs your household would need to cover. The estimator on this page multiplies the annual income entered by the years entered, adds the mortgage balance and other family needs, and subtracts existing life insurance. Review the breakdown and limitations before using the result in a coverage discussion.

Can I get term life insurance if I have health issues?

Eligibility depends on the carrier’s review of your application, including your health history. A medical exam or additional health information may be required. I can explain the application process and help you review the carrier’s decision.

Is term life better than whole life insurance?

Term life covers a set period and can fit needs such as a mortgage or income replacement during working years. Whole life is designed for lifelong coverage and builds cash value, subject to the policy terms. The choice depends on how long you need protection and what you want the policy to do. The two types can also be combined.

Can I cancel my term life policy?

You can request cancellation through the carrier. Before ending coverage, review whether your family still needs protection and whether the policy allows changes. A new application may require another health review. If you plan to replace a policy, confirm the new coverage is in force before canceling the existing policy.
